If you have a disability and need equipment to help you do every day tasks, the Ministry may be able to help. Go to our I need equipment page for more information.

Equipment funded by the Ministry is owned by the Ministry and provided to you on long term loan.

It needs to be returned to Accessable when no longer needed. This includes low rise lifts that may be affixed to your home.

If you have equipment that is not being used by you, complete our collections form or contact us.

If we have provided your equipment, you can complete a request a repair form or contact us.

It may be that we are unable to repair the equipment, in which case a replacement item will be provided. If you have had the equipment for some time, or it is no longer suitable, we may refer you to your therapist to have your needs assessed.

If you need equipment repaired urgently because there is a safety risk or the equipment is essential to your wellbeing, we will come to you after hours. If this happens to you, phone 0508 001 002 and we may be able to help.

There is no charge for repair to equipment provided by Accessable.

Some types of equipment (such as power chairs, electric beds and lifts etc.) will need to be maintained.

We will contact you to arrange this when it is due, however if you think your equipment needs to be serviced and we haven't been in touch, you can fill out the request a service form or contact us.

There is no charge for maintenance or servicing to equipment provided by Accessable.

If you believe equipment is no longer suitable for you, contact your therapist, or assessment service who will work with you to reassess your needs.

As your equipment is a loan from the Ministry, we will collect it when you no longer have a use for it. We then refurbish it to provide to another disabled person who needs it. This includes low rise lifts that may be affixed to your home.

If you have equipment that is not being used by you, complete our collections form or contact us.

Depending on the type of equipment, you may receive it from our warehouse or direct from one of our suppliers. 

Your equipment may be a quality second hand product or new. If you are being provided with multiple items, they may not all arrive at once. 

If you are concerned that you haven't received the equipment requested for you, contact us.

If you leave New Zealand, you may take the following items that have been funded by the Ministry with you:

• personal mobility items such as wheelchairs and walking aids
• lower cost or highly personal equipment such as toileting equipment
• dedicated communication advices
• glasses
• equipment which has been customised to meet your individual needs

If you are moving within New Zealand, contact us to let us know so we can update your details. If you move outside of the greater Auckland area or Northland, we will pass this information to Enable New Zealand who will then manage your equipment.

You are responsible for moving your equipment to your new address.

In New Zealand, residential care providers are responsible for providing disability equipment, however there may be some selected equipment you can take with you.

Contact us and we can help you with what that might be, and to arrange collection of equipment you will leave behind.

Accessable engages registered, approved builders to carry out hosing modifications on behalf of the Ministry.

All Acccessable housing modifications follow the NZ Standards Guidelines for Access and Mobility - Buildings and Associated Facilities NZS4121:2001 and are carried out in accordance with the NZ Building Code.

Yes - but you will need to get the property owner's approval first. Your assessor will provide the appropriate paperwork for you to give to the property owner and only when this has been signed can the modifications begin.

Your assessor will visit the site to make sure all your disability related needs are met by the modifications. Your assessor will also arrange for any other equipment needed to use in your modified home. They will then sign off the modifications to Accessable, so that payment can be made to the contractors.

Once the modifications are complete, they become the responsibility of the property owner - maintenance and repair and removal or replacement of the modification (excludes low-rise lifts).

If a client who was funded by the Ministry for a low rise lift becomes deceased or moves out of the home, contact us as we may need to remove the lift to refurbish it for another disabled person who needs it.

We can discuss options with your whānau and family members.

The priority system implemented by the Ministry in March 2024 was put in place to ensure those who have the most urgent need can continue to access equipment and modification services.

When completing a service request, a prioritisation form is required to be submitted to determine whether a request for a disabled person falls under priority one or priority two.

This does NOT apply to service requests for Band 1 equipment.

Service requests for priority two equipment and modifications will be placed on a waitlist until funds are available.

Once you submit an advice request, our Professional Advisory Team will contact you within 10 to 15 working days. You can see current advice review times here on our assessor page.

Our team may request further information or clarification of the details provided in the advice request. For information on what to include in an advice request, go to our advisory resources page.

They will work with you to determine the most appropriate, cost effective solution for your client and discuss eligibility and criteria with you. Once a solution has been agreed between assessor and adviser, you will be requested to submit a service request.

Our customer support team will process your service request within five working days. This may be longer if they need to clarify information with you or the professional advisory team. You can see current processing times on our assessor information page.

Once the service request has been processed, you will be notified. If the service request is for trial equipment, you will be sent a trial approval form to give the supplier.

Band 1 equipment will be delivered within five working days. Band 2, 3 non list or write in equipment may take longer, depending on the complexity and availability of supply.

In some circumstances, you submit a service request for trial of equipment.

• Once the trial is approved you will receive a trial approval email.
• If you add equipment items to a trial you MUST update the trial service request. If is this not done we are unable to issue a purchase order to the supplier should the equipment be successful.
• The maximum trial length is 20 days unless arrangements have been made with the supplier.
• You must update the trial outcome regardless of whether it is successful if not. If you do not update an unsuccessful trial the item will be held on the client's record. If you do not update a successful trial, the supplier will not be paid.
• We cannot issue purchase orders for any damaged or lost trial items.

Arrangements for supply and collection are between the assessor and supplier.

If you don't have a case manager, call ACC on 0800 101996 and they will guide you through the process.

Your assessor will identify your injury related needs and make recommendations to ACC as to the modifications required. ACC has the final approval on which modifications will be funded.
